Hello, I'm Sandra!

Thank you so much for visiting my website and being curious enough to learn about me! After working in the veterinary field for 35 years, capturing the beauty of nature through photography has become my true passion while advocating that we all must become good stewards of the land. I strive through my photography to "Keep Florida Wild!"

ABOUT ME

I am proud to be a fifth generation native Floridian. My family came from Ireland to Central Florida in the 1800’s, then on to Hialeah in 1898. I grew up in Central Florida and spent my time fishing for largemouth bass, speckled perch and bream with my father and mother. We hiked the marsh and pine forest and scrub oak trails of old Florida. In those days, the sound of Bob White Quail filled the air. Almost extinct, they are now making a comeback due to efforts of the University of Florida. Their plight may have been my earliest interest in the ecological system here in Central Florida. Since that time long ago, I have developed a passion for nature and advocate that everyone must be a good steward of the land. I strive through my photography to “Keep Florida Wild.''

I worked 35 years in the veterinary field. I have worked with almost all species of animals “great and small”. It is in the back woods and marsh that I began to develop my passion for photography. And most importantly it is where I feel spiritually connected to the earth. I learn about life from nature. My photography begins with the photo, a mere millisecond of time to capture the beauty and reality of nature. From that moment I can turn it into an abstract piece of art. And once printed on HD metal, it opens the mind to an entire world of possibilities.  Someone who has a piece of my art told me “I feel as if I’m actually walking into the cypress swamp”. My photography, whether realistic or abstract, does elicit a feeling of actually being there with nature.

I still travel, hike and find peace with nature. My favorite place to photograph is on the Saint Johns River. I frequently take guided trips out of Highland Park Fish Camp at dawn and photograph sunrise and wildlife along the river. My future trips will be photographing Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Joshua tree, Red Rocks AZ, the Grand Canyon and the Valley of Fire before the end of the year. Even though my photography is predominantly of Central Florida I will be adding more abstract images from different locations in the very near future. Thank you!
